Tips for Mastodon
Getting the most out of Mastodon
- Content warnings (CWs) are a real cultural norm here, not spam — use them for sensitive or off-topic posts
- Instance culture varies a lot — what works on one server's local timeline may not on another's
- Hashtags do real discovery work on Mastodon, more so than on some centralized platforms
- Because it's federated, engagement can lag as posts propagate across servers — don't judge reach too quickly
Mastodon questions
How do I connect a Mastodon account?+
With a personal access token from your instance's Settings → Development page, plus your instance's URL — every Mastodon server is its own independent deployment.
Does Mastodon support scheduling?+
Mastodon's own API does have a native scheduled-publish parameter, but Landio uses its own background queue to handle timing uniformly across every platform instead — so scheduling behaves identically whether or not a platform has native scheduling of its own.
Are analytics available?+
Not currently — Mastodon's API doesn't expose engagement analytics the way some centralized platforms do.
